How to Make Commuting FUN

Most of us spend a lot of time driving a car, truck, motorbike, or electric vehicle. Not all of this is fun time, so it’s important to find ways to make driving to work more pleasant. A friend who commutes by train into the city makes a habit of finding attractive women…and he tends to have ‘train affairs’ with them… but we don’t recommend this idea to men in committed relationships for obvious reasons.

Since we’re always thinking about ways to make life more fun in general, we came upon some research about what people in the UK do to pass the time endured in commuting:

They Listen to Radio

Young drivers (18 to 34) prefer BBC Radio 2. Two DJs are preferred: Nick Grimshaw (winner) and Chris Evans (runner-up). Strangely, Nick Grimshaw and Chris Evans are also the two most annoying DJs in the UK. Some drivers also have theme songs, such as “Like a Bat Out of Hell” by Meat Loaf. Others like music from Coldplay (take that, Gwyneth Paltrow), Justin Bieber (ugh), Lady Gaga, and One Direction…and still others admit to singing aloud or playing on a tablet (!) while driving. (Hey guys, don’t do that!) Taking photos with one’s mobile is also a popular pastime. Apparently, Volvo drivers do this most often! Can this be true?

Men also admit to getting dressed, brushing teeth, or flossing at the wheel…

They Shop On the Road

Tebay services has been voted as the best service station in the UK. An outdoor café, local produce, farm shop, and – goodness – on-site butchers makes this a great place to multitask. Commuting takes a lot of time, and Tebay answers the question, “What’s for dinner?”

Watford Gap is apparently the worst place to get service of any kind.

They Say It’s Not Easy Being Green

Most people in the UK still prefer to drive to work regardless of more Eco-friendly options like public transport. Those living in East Midlands are most likely to avoid any other transportation method. Even those living less than a mile from work say they’d rather drive than walk or cycle. About 44 percent of men and 33 percent of women drive to work. Honda is the most popular commuter car—about 56 percent of commuters say they drive one. London residents do use the tube, but HALF OF LONDONERS still drive into the office! Those who don’t work prefer Alfa Romeo!

They Say It’s Convenient to Eat Junk

Naturally, younger people are the most likely people to drive to work—more than half of people up to age 24 drive into work. They also like to eat junk food on the road, with more than two-thirds saying a drive-through is their choice of breakfast, lunch, or dinner on the road. People of all ages admit to this form of food sinning—about half of men and 60 percent of women do this. East Midlanders eat the most junk food. People living in Southeast UK make the healthiest food choices.

They Have a Preference of Commuter Companions

Thinking back to my friend with the penchant for train affairs, researchers said that most women like to commute with their partners but men prefer wives or girlfriends only before elderly relatives…

They Don’t Know What Google Glass Is…

Researchers also found that most people queried don’t know what Google Glass is. About a third said “It is a distraction” or “It should be banned.” Women were less likely to know about Google Glass than men. More Londoners know about Google Glass…and people living in Northern Ireland want to ban its use in driving!
