How to Make Arno’s Phantom Blade from Assassin’s Creed: Unity

After years of hard work at Ubisoft’s Montreal studio and many others, Assassin’s Creed: Unity is finally here. Gamers are already running, jumping, climbing, and carrying out assassinations in 18th century Paris, but the question on everyone’s lips is: how can I make a working Assassin’s Creed: Unity Phantom Blade?

It turns out it’s actually pretty difficult, which isn’t too surprising. You see, Arno’s Phantom Blade is not only a hidden blade, but also a small crossbow. In short, lots of tiny little parts to make that work. Thankfully we’ve got Matt and Kerry Stagmer of Baltimore Knife & Sword to show us how it’s done.

Arno Dorian’s Phantom Blade – MAN AT ARMS: REFORGED

If you’re one of our frequent readers, you may remember one of the earlier working hidden blades we wrote about. That was also showcased on “MAN AT ARMS,” but by one of the other master sword-smiths, Tony Swatton.

I don’t know about you, but I found that pretty fascinating. I took metalworking class in high-school, and always wanted to make knives. I know, I know… not exactly the most constructive wish, but what teenage boy doesn’t want to make such things? Forging steel, casting aluminum… ah, the joys of working with metal. Perhaps I can make more than a screwdriver and lunch box.

The details on this particular project are exceptional. Given that the Stagmer brothers only had to make minor changes to the workings of the Phantom Blade, it’s clear that the designer responsible for this weapon put a lot of thought into creating something that could actually exist. Marketing people may not believe it, but it’s the little details that make all the difference.

If you haven’t already picked up a copy of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, you can order a copy for about $59.99 USD. Unfortunately the game doesn’t come with a working version of the Phantom Blade. You’ll just have to make one yourself, or not, because if we’re being perfectly honest here, it’s a little bit creepy.

Lastly, if you’re interested in learning more about Baltimore Knife & Sword, you can visit their official website. As they mentioned in the video, the team puts together all sorts of knives and swords for movies, games, and television.
