Land Rover Defender Concept 17 Wide Body

Regular Unfinished Man reads know my love affair with the utilitarian Land Rover Defender, I try to write about as many tuned and non-tuned Defenders as I can find.  Today I bring you the Kahn Design Land Rover Defender Concept 17 Wide Body – Harris Tweed Prototype, now that’s a mouthful.

The Defender’s engine has been left alone with the interior being the main focus and a few exterior upgrades.  The exterior upgrades include a wide body kit that comes with wider front and rear fenders with integrated vents and gunmetal fender flares.  This gives the Defender an even more aggressive look than the stock version and the body-color-matching 18” wheels look amazing.  Can you tell I love this car?

Other exterior upgrades include LED lights, fender mounted air-vents, vented hood, stainless steel front grill, clear taillights, and a rear tire cover that has the “Chelsea Truck Company” logo, Kahn Design’s subsidiary.

The interior is completely the opposite of what you’d find in a stock Land Rover Defender, which very utilitarian and not in a good way.  The Kahn Design Defender Concept 17’s interior feels as luxurious as a Range Rover or other high-end SUV.  The interior features four racing bucket seats that are covered in black Nappa leather with Harris Tweed inserts and silver or red contrast stitching.  The same leather and stitching is applied to the center glove box and the dashboard and the roof liner is covered in grey Alcantara with red stitching.

The tachometer has a red background and a Kahn Churchill clock is placed on the dashboard surrounded by black piano wood.  The pedals are machined aluminum, although they’re missing in the picture below, we get to look at the regular rubber/plastic material covered pedals.

I’m pretty much sold on the Kahn Design tuned Defender Concept 17, or any other tuned Defender.  I just love their tough look and appreciate the time spent on making the interior luxurious.  It’s too bad we can’t buy these awesome SUV’s in North America (at least the new ones).  The new Defender will be coming to North America but that’s not as cool as these classic ones.
