We’d like to introduce you to the latest hybrid supercar, or hyper car as some like to call them, the Koenigsegg Regera. The Regera is the world’s most powerful production car/hybrid, it has almost as much power as a dozen Toyota Prius cars combined.
How much horsepower does the Regera produce? I’m glad you asked, the answer is a bit complicated, but according to Koenigsegg, the combined output is 1,500 horsepower. Yes, you read that right and yes this is a hybrid car, not like the Prius though. Power produced individually by all the motors adds up to more than 1,800 HP but that’s not how you calculate hybrid power.
At the heart of the Regera is a 5.0 liter bi-turbo V8 engine producing 1,100 horsepower, this is the engine found on the Agera supercar. Koenigsegg added an additional three electric motors, one at each of the rear wheels and one at the crank, which produce an additional 700 HP. The Regera doesn’t use a traditional gearbox, power is sent directly to the rear axle, making this car essentially a one-speed. According to Koenigsegg, there is 50% less energy loss with this system compared to a traditional gearbox.
The Koenigsegg Regera is equipped with a 9.27 kWh battery pack and can travel up to 40 miles in electric mode, the car also comes with a plug for recharging.
Unlike other car makers, Koenigsegg isn’t even bothering with a 0 – 60 mph time (not yet at least), instead they tell us the Regera does the 0 -249 mph (400 km/h) sprint in under 20 seconds, that’s pretty fast! No word on top speed either.
Only 80 Koenigsegg Regera hybrid supercars will be built, with an estimated price tag of around $2 million US each. Via: Koenigsegg
