Jota Mazda MX-5 GT by Jota Sports

I’ve always been a fan of the Mazda MX-5 Miata but never enough to actually consider as a potential vehicle to purchase. What the car lacks in power is made up for with its great handling characteristics the vehicle possesses. Depending on the type of race track, sometimes better handling is more important than just power but guys over at Jota Sports like to have both when it comes to their Mazda MX-5’s. The company presented the Mazda MX-5 GT Concept at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and Mazda has now given the green light to its production for the UK market.

The project initially started as a joint venture with Mazda and Jota Sports and after a year of development and testing, Mazda handed the project over to Jota to take the vehicle to market independently as a ‘Jota Mazda MX-5 GT’.

The vehicle is based on the MX-5 Roadster Coupe 2.0-liter Sport Tech but will cost about $16,500 more bringing the final price to $48,500. Before you have a heart attack, just remember that we North Americans pay a lot less for vehicles than the folks over in the UK. The Jota Mazda MX-5 GT will come with a three-year standard Mazda warrant for all non-modified parts and it will also include an aftermarket extension which will cover all the modified parts in the vehicle.

The modded MX-5 GT will feature a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder producing a total of 203 horsepower and shaving the 0-60mph time by 1.5 seconds bringing it down to 6.4 seconds. The car is limited to a top speed of 140mph (which is too bad), and there will be a minimal change when it comes to fuel consumption despite 36 additional horsepower.

Mazda MX-5’s already handle great but there is always room for improvement and the Jota Sports engineers re-tuned the Bilstein suspension. Other features include a carbon rear diffuser and leather Recarco racing seats. Customers can also have the option of a carbon front splitter, carbon rear lip spoiler, and Jota’s road & track Ohins suspension kit.

The pictures seen here are the concept version but the Jota Mazda MX-5 GT will be available in white pearl, true red, and aluminum silver metallic while all will feature a brilliant black room and anthracite alloy performance wheels.
