The Huntsman Henley Review – A Modern Classic by Triple Aught Design

I’ve written about Triple Aught Design quite a bit over the last six months. TAD apparel is a long time staple of mine, and when I realized I was in desperate need of a new henley (no, really… my wardrobe needed some updates), picking up their latest refresh of the Huntsman Henley was a no-brainer.

You see, since moving from West Coast Canada – with its relatively mild year long climate – to Eastern Canada, a place with some of the lowest – and highest – temperatures in Canada, I’ve had to re-think my clothing strategy a bit. I’m no longer able to wear t-shirts all year long, and that means I need clothes that can adapt to the wildly fluctuating weather.

Triple Aught Design’s Huntsman Henley

As I mentioned in an earlier TAD hoodie review, the constant temperature fluctuations here make dressing oneself a bit of a challenge. Thankfully, there’s a material that handles a wide range of temperate fluctuations like a champ, and it’s called Merino Wool.

Henleys are already a personal favorite of mine… they’re functional for a wide range of activities, and they look extremely classy to boot. If they’re good enough for Dexter, they’re good enough for me. That TAD has come up with a henley made out of MAPP (Merino Advanced Performance Program) fabric doesn’t hurt, and neither does their typical “tactical” enhancements, like flatlock seams and single panel underarm construction for uninhibited range of motion. As a rock climber this comes in handy, and you know what? It doesn’t hurt playing pool either.

The Huntsman Henley pictured throughout is TAD’s 2014 model in “Seige” blue. It’s also available in heather gray and “deception” (it’s best if you look at the colors on their website), but the blue is really my favorite. The Canadian tape slotted buttons along the neck opening really do add modern character and refinement.

I’ve no shortage of character, but could certainly use some refinement. At least I look the part… just need my billiard skills to catch up with my good looks and style.

This is a photo of my serious business billiards face, but it also highlights how nicely the Merino Wool conforms to my body. No, don’t think about this too hard… I’m just saying that it fits very well for physical activity, even billiards. Not tight, but also not drapey.

Now, you can normally pick up the Huntsman Henley for $100 USD. That’s a pretty damn good deal for a garment of this quality, but… the guys over at Triple Aught Design were generous enough to offer you guys a 10% discount off your purchase between June 24th – July 2nd, 2014!

Fine print: the 10% promotion will be available for one time use on all apparel, apparel accessories, tools, and soft good items. Custom hard goods and other items where mentioned on the site are not available for discount.

  1. Triple Aught has some good products, but they can drive one crazy as they constantly run out of inventory. The Spartan pants you featured a while ago were out of stock for over a month. I get the whole supply and demand concept that they are trying to use to create some level of exclusivity but it resulted in my friends and I looking for alternatives.

    • Hi James, we have been hard at work to increase our capacity as quickly as we can. We had almost four times more pants this year than last. We will continue to push ourselves to ensure we keep upping our supply but we are a small company (only 30 people) and the demand will continue to grow as long as we have great sites like this one featuring our product. We promise to do better and thanks for the feedback.

PS: Sign up for our newsletter to get inside intel on all product restocks. We send them out Friday at 0900 Pacific.

  2. TAD Team.. Shhh Don’t tell them our secrets 😛

Seriously though James, there is a very large yet close online fan base for TAD called “TADjunkies” on Facebook. Along with signing up for the newsletter you should join the group as it’s an invaluable resource for learning more about this company and trading with fellow junkies if you miss a drop or have a special request.
