Here’s How to Really Support Your Favorite Indie Band…

As I write this article, I’m listening to one of my absolute favorite “electronic” artists: Carpenter Brut. See that person up above? That’s not actually him, that’s just a random musician I found to represent Indie music, so you’ll have to use your imagination on this one.

Having a favorite artist is a big deal to me. You see, I didn’t actually listen to anything resembling real music when I was a teenager; it just wasn’t something I did. Sure, my parents put on cassettes of dolphin sounds and Yanni every so often, but… you know. That kind of thing doesn’t really get a person pumped up.

So now I love music. I also love music streaming services. They’re fast, they’re convenient, and they expose me to tons of new music I may not have otherwise heard. The trouble… is that they don’t always pay the musicians very well. Given that I like to support these Indie groups, what exactly can I do?

Well, I don’t have the resources of a major car company like Scion to help talented young artists…

… but what I can do is donate directly and see shows. It’s rare that I don’t have a blast seeing one of my favorite artists or bands playing, so I’ve gotten in the habit of seeing at least my top favorites any time they stop in my city.

It’s so easy to get music these days that we often forget that people make this stuff. It takes a lot of time, energy, and yes… even money. If you want your favorite band to keep making that music you love so much, don’t forget to buy their album, send them a donation, or go see one of their shows every so often. You’ll have a ton of fun and be supporting a good cause (awesome music) at the same time.
