How Long Should You Wait to Call a Girl After a Date?

We’re often asked, how long should I wait to call a girl after a date? It’s a great question, and here’s what I think:

Your wait time out to be proportional to how well you believe the date went. The better the date, the shorter the delay. Do you believe she was really into you? Amazing. Here’s how to proceed: “The new norm is to text an hour subsequent to the date,” says Match.com dating and relationship specialist Whitney Casey. “Keep it casual, mentioning something you laughed about together or by simply expressing how much you loved hanging out.” Then, don’t wait too long before asking her for another date. She’ll be thrilled.

But… what about if you’re not sure? Be honest with yourself about how that date went. Girls? Say what we mean? Yeah… more realistically, we will most likely tell how we felt about the date through non verbal cues, which will eventually reveal the bewitching post-date-call timetable you seek. So ask yourself: Did she smile a good deal and act a little nervous, or did she hold back a little? Did she give you a hug? Did you kiss? Was it a great kiss?

She is likely unsure too, if those replies leave you feeling a little uncertain. She is still feeling things out and may want a breather to figure things out. Maybe she can’t figure out if you’re a bad-body, leaving her wondering if there is enough of a connection between you two, or perhaps she’s merely dealt with an awful break up. Whatever the case, you most likely still have a shot. Not if you come on too powerful, though. When we are still thinking the situation over, overzealous behavior scares us, makes us nervous. Those super-enthusiastic phone calls, emails, and texts? We’ll just decide to ignore you.

So, take it slow. Wait a few days (not minutes) or so to really reach out again. Give her a little bit of space, then work on her heart slowly. A call a couple days later to chat? Great. We are suckers for guys who let us ease in… so to speak. Persistence and patience are key. Any reservations we have will completely evaporate.

But one final word of warning: be real! The kind of woman you’re looking for will like you a whole lot more for it.
