Honda Mean Mower Sets Guinness Speed Record

I would much rather own a single family home over a condominium or town home even if it does mean that I would have to mow the lawn and maintain some sort of a garden. And it wouldn’t even be a big deal if I had my hands on Honda’s world record setting lawn mower, the Honda Mean Mower. According to a Guinness representative, the Honda lawn mower is officially the world’s fastest lawn mower achieving a top speed of 116.57 mph (187.6 km/h).

Although the record set was 116.57 mph, the Stig from Top Gear has achieved even faster speed of 130 mph. The previous time Honda attempted to set the record, the lawn mower reached speeds of 87.83 mph. The speed was measured over a 100 meter speed trap and the 116.57 mph is the average of two runs, in both directions, just like the speed records at Bonneville Salt Flats.

Now, how in the world did this lawn mower reach such high speeds? The team didn’t bother modifying the Honda HF2620 Lawn Tractor’s little stock motor that already comes with the mower. Honda made this possible by installing a 1,000cc V-Twin engine from a VTR Firestorm producing 109 horsepower! They also installed wheels that come off an ATV meant for the tarmac. And the wide stance of the Honda Lawn Mower is thanks to its completely overhauled custom suspension system. Not only is the Mean Mower fast but it also sounds fantastic as young see in the video with the noise level reaching 130db.

Only in four seconds, the vehicle can go from zero to 60 mph. As you can see, there is also a big grass bag on the vehicle. This provides a home for the high capacity oil cooler, fuel tank, and an additional water cooling radiator. Other upgrades include a custom-made paddle shift six-gear system, a beautiful sounding Scorpion exhaust system and a Morris Minor steering rack.

The Honda Mean Mower doesn’t just go fast, it can also cut grass with its two Mean sports electric motors on the cutter deck spinning a 3mm steel cutting cable at 4000rpm. According to Honda, the mower is capable of cutting grass at 15 mph (24km/h), which is more than twice the top speed of the stock Honda HF2620.
