Hipster Sculptures – Léo Caillard and Alexis Persani Visit the Louvre

I’m a big, big fan of classic marble sculptures. The artists of years gone by were talented in a way that most people can only dream about today. The sculptures were often eerily realistic, which is further testament to their skill as sculptors. After all, they had only simplistic tools like hammers and chisels to create their masterpieces.

Yes, I’m forever impressed by the many works that fill the Louvre and many other art hubs, and every time I see these beautiful pieces of art, I think to myself… perhaps one day I should bless the world with a rock hard, chizeled sculpture of myself. Stoic…. erect… eternal.

Anyway…

Hipsters of the Louvre

I’m going to assume you’ve all heard of the Louvre in France. You know, big museum filled with artwork such as the Mona Lisa? It’s kind of a big deal, and it’s absolutely riddled with the type of sculptures I just mentioned. Pretty cool, right?

Well, it seems that photographer Léo Caillard, and art director Alexis Persani, weren’t quite satisfied with them. No, they were missing a certain something… a certain, hipster something, if you will.

I haven’t quite decided why, but this is probably my favorite of the bunch. The subdued color on the dress really lends itself well to the tone and texture of the marble she’s carved from. I’m just worried that we’re going to start seeing American Apparel adverts that look exactly like this. Well… I guess it couldn’t be any worse than what they use now. At least the women wouldn’t be so skeletal.

If you haven’t figured it out already, these are all photo manipulations. Incredibly well done photo manipulations, but photo manipulations none the less.

Now, instead of trying to explain how they did it, I suggest you check out this video which shows the entire process from start to finish. They’re both very talented fellows, and you can see a lot more of their work on the Behance Network, including the remainder of this set which they called “Street Stone“.
