The Ford SVT Raptor is one tough factory-built truck; it has been very popular due to its off-road capabilities and from what I hear, it is a very fun vehicle to thrash around off-road. Since Ford recently released a new F-150 truck, it’s expected Ford will bring a new SVT Raptor soon, probably showcased at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
The aftermarket tuners Hennessey got the jump on Ford by presenting their version of the Raptor, the Hennessey VelociRaptor 600. Hennessey already had a VelociRaptor version of the SVT Raptor, so the new 600 VelociRaptor is a spiritual successor of the new SVT Raptor; it’s kind like a prequel to a movie after the movie has been released (think “The Hobbit”).
The Hennessey VelociRaptor 600 is based on the new aluminum-bodied F-150 truck, and is powered by the same 5.0 liter V8 found on the F-150 but with the addition of a supercharger producing 600 horsepower, up from 385 on the stock V8. The increase in power is achieved with the inclusion of the supercharger, a new engine management system, upgraded fuel injectors, and a stainless steel exhaust. According to the tuner, the VelociRaptor can hit 60 mph in under 5 seconds. The truck is fitted with 33” tires on 17” wheels and can be equipped with optional high performance suspension and Brembo brakes.
The VelociRaptor 600 has a starting price of $73,500 and will be available for deliveries in March 2015. Hennessey is also going to offer the VelociRaptor package on the EcoBoost F-150 in the near future. Via: Hennessey
