GoSun Sport Stove – Solar Cooking

Our sun has been around for over 4.5 billion years and countless cultures of the past have worshiped it as if it was a god. Without the sun, we are royally screwed. The sun is a powerful source of energy that gives life to the earth and humans have learned of ways to harness its energy in the modern age. The latest gadget that I came across is the GoSun Sport Stove.

Nope, no solar panels will be found on this little gadget. This sleek and portable stove may look like a folded tube of metal but inside it is a setup which allows the device to absorb the rays of the sun and convert them into pure heat. As long as there is sunshine, this device will cook food and that includes cold and chilly days. If you live in Seattle or Vancouver, you won’t be using this device too often.

On a fully sunny day, the GoSun Sport Stove can cook a meal in as little as 20 minutes and the temperatures can reach over 550 degrees Fahrenheit! Now those are some impressive numbers there. If you’ve checked the seven-day weather forecast and all appears to be well, this would be a nice idea for camping although I would still recommend bringing a backup stove just in case.

Have a look at the image below showing the cook times.

The GoSun Sport Stove’s compound parabolic reflectors and tubular design is able to convert almost 80% of sunlight entering its refectories into usable heat. A standard package will include borosilicate, an evacuated glass tube cooking chamber, two folding parabolic reflectors, stainless steel cooking tray with a wooden handle, a cleaning scrubby, and a carrying handle which can act as set of support legs. The device can be adjusted to face the sun in any position along along the two axis.

More details can be found on the GoSun website. The GoSun Sport Stove is available for $249.
