Forgotten Archery Techniques — Learning to Shoot 10 Arrows in 4.9 Seconds

The Danish archer Lars Andersen has re-discovered a long forgotten archery technique that allows the shooter to fire 10 arrows in 4.9 seconds. It’s incredible to see him in action, and even if you’re not an archer, I believe you’ll find the following presentation fascinating.

The video weighs in at just under 5 minutes and talks about the rise and fall of archery, the techniques we “lost” along the way, and how Lars Andersen was able to re-discover this ancient archery technique and put it into practice with modern archery. As you’re about to see, Lars puts Legolas to shame.

Rediscovering Forgotten Archery Techniques

Lars has trained himself to shoot 10 arrows in just under 5 seconds, and that’s just the beginning. He can also do this while running, jumping, and even falling.

I found it not only impressive that he was able to fire arrows so quickly, but that he was also able to do so with such incredible accuracy. Not even falling, jumping, running, or any of the other less-than-ideal scenarios he showed us seemed to weaken his aim.

Since the release of the first Hunger Games movie years ago, it seems that archery is seeing a bit of a resurgence, and I’m happy to see that. Shooting firearms can be an enjoyable experience (I’ve done this myself a few times,) but there’s something uniquely satisfying about firing a bow.

I’ve been meaning to take classes for years, and perhaps this will finally be the kick I need to make that happen.

But what about you, what’s your experience with archery? If you’ve seen any other incredible techniques like this, please leave us a note in the comments below. Maybe we’ll start seeing more proper technique in film and television.
