Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

If you are a car fan, no matter what part of the world you live in, you’d definitely like to at least get behind the wheel of a Ferrari sports car, if only for a day.  Owning a Ferrari automobile is a dream of many men and women, but you’d need a lot of cash and unfortunately most of us never get to that point.

I’ve always been a fan of Ferrari cars, in teens and early 20’s, all I cared for was the modern Ferrari sports cars of the 1990’s and 2000’s, these cars seem old now.  As I grew older, I still loved the new stuff that came out of Maranello, but I also started to appreciate the classic Ferrari cars from the era before I was born.  I call a classic car a charming old antique that you can actually take out once in a while and show off.  These classic Ferraris are even more unattainable than the modern cars; I recently saw an auction for the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, which sold for a record £24 million or about $39.8 million US!

1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa

As nice as modern Ferrari (and other) cars are, there’s just something special about classic Ferraris.  The 250 Testa Rossa has a beautiful curvaceous body, with flowing lines that are so seductive.  The car was built for racing and has a clean interior and no luxurious amenities.  The car is small and light, weighing in at 1,750 pounds, it didn’t need airbags and other modern safety gear that makes modern cars heavy.

The Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was developed in 1957 for the 1958 racing season; it was powered by a 3.0 liter V12 engine that produced 300 bhp at 7,200 rpm and 281 pound-feet of torque at 5,500 rpm.  Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox.  The car did the 0 – 60 mph run in around 6 seconds with a top speed of 161 miles per hour.  The car featured a steel tube frame with aluminum body parts on top and it came with aluminum drum brakes, it wasn’t the most modern race car at the time but it did the job.

Owning a car like the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa is out of the question for me, and most of our readers, unless I/we win the lottery.  Owning a newer Ferrari might not be as bad, something like the Ferrari F355 isn’t too bad, as long as you can do your own maintenance.  You could also use something like Loan-My-Motor logbook loans for bad credit; if you need to borrow money to buy your dream (used) Ferrari.  Via: DM
