Far Cry 4: Gameplay Demo – E3 2014

It feels like only yesterday that I was writing about the imminent release of Far Cry 3, a game that would turn out to be one of my favorite shooters in the last few years.

I’m not easily impressed these days, having played every shooter I could get my hands on over the last decade, but the previous two Far Cry games have been truly enjoyable for me. The exotic locations, the clever gameplay, the driving… the guns. All these elements make for a wonderful Far Cry experience, and as I mentioned yesterday in my “Best of E3 2014” article, I believe we’re going to see this again with Ubisoft’s upcoming Far Cry 4.

Real… Actual… Gameplay

Unlike the footage I showed you yesterday – which was the first 5 minutes of Far Cry 4 – today you get to see real, actual gameplay, and narrated by none other than Alexander Hutchinson, the Creative Director behind Assassin’s Creed 3.

The island in Far Cry 3 looked great, no doubt about it… but this fictional Tibetan landscape looks absolutely incredible if you ask me. Sure, the graphics engine may not be the pinnacle of technology (it’s designed with the previous generation consoles in mind), but they’ve done a fantastic job with the visuals all the same.

The gameplay looks familiar, but with some great improvements. The grappling hook looks like a bit of a gimmick, but being able to shoot while driving and, better yet, jump onto other people’s vehicles and attack them, that’s the stuff of gaming bliss. I can imagine a hundred scenarios to make use of these new abilities, and all of them will undoubtedly be a blast…

Far Cry 4 is arriving in November, 2014, for all major consoles, both this current generation and the last. It’s also coming out for PC, which is the only platform you should be playing it on anyway.
