Far Cry 3 has been under development for longer than I can remember, and usually that’s a bad thing. When a game is under development for that long, there’s often something seriously amiss. The result? Games like Duke Nukem: Forever.
What’s exciting, is that Far Cry 3 actually looks not only okay, but really quite awesome. In fact, I’m looking forward to it almost as much as I much as I was Dishonored. As you’re about to see in this latest trailer, the game just keeps getting better and better. This is by far the most “serious” of the trailers I’ve seen, and it’s an unexpected but completely welcome surprise.
Battle Royale – Citra vs Vaas
What really surprised me about this trailer (aside from the darker tone) is just how beautiful some of the scenes look. The world is bright and slightly stylized, but some of the scenes are incredibly lifelike and oozing with personality. The introduction of Dennis – the fellow tattooing the players arm – is especially fantastic looking, and I’m hoping that the game world is full of characters and interactions like this.
There was a time not so very long ago when simply blowing people away was enough for me. I could play a game like Doom or Wolfenstein – games light on narrative – and completely enjoy them. That was a simpler time, and I’ve changed a lot since then. These days a deep, rich story is just as important to me as how many guns or swords I’m able to acquire. Games that feature a living breathing world, filled with interesting characters with stories of their own are pretty much the epitome of awesome gaming for me. If Far Cry 3 can pull that off, then Ubisoft has found themselves another dedicated fan.
Far Cry 3 Release Date
As I mentioned earlier, Far Cry 3 has had an unusually long development cycle, but finally… on as of December 4th, we’ll have we now have an opportunity to jump into the world, and experience an island full of danger, intrigue, and a very hot, naked Citra. Believe me, she’s hot enough to justify the $50 USD pricetag that Ubisoft decided to slap on the game. Now if only they released an “art book” of her…
