The Drinkable Book – Each Page Is A Filter

For most of us living here in the United States and Canada, we drink water, waste waster, wash our cars, and clean ourselves with it without really giving it a second thought. I’ve visited and lived in places where clean water is not always available and a very precious thing. Water also happens to be my favorite drink although I do enjoy the occasional sugar infested Pepsi. Anyways, you get the point, water is precious and we should appreciate having access to it because many others don’t.

We’ve actually written about a number of different water filters whether it’s for camping or something designed for developing nations where water filtration plants don’t exist. The Drinkable Book is yet another great product intended for filtering water. It’s not a book you can drink but its pages on the inside of the book can be torn and used to filter water. The filter paper is capable of effectively weeding out contaminants and bacteria such as Typhoid, Cholera, and E.Coli.

Once the water is filtered, it is 99.9 percent pure and safe to consume. The Drinkable Book is very cost-effective to produce and one of the most inexpensive options on the market. The page of the book (filter) is capable of giving someone up to 30 days worth of clean water while the entire book is able to provide someone with clean drinking water for up to four years. Now that’s pretty awesome. The book also provides educational tips on safe water habits. The Drinkable Book is designed by Brian Gartside along side with scientists and engineers from Carnegie Mellon and the University of Virginia. The team says that the water filtered by the Drinkable Book is comparable to the tap water available in the USA.

For more details, check out Water is Life where you can also donate to make the book accessible to people who don’t have access to clean water.
