Dina Goldstein’s Fallen Princesses: A Disney Reality Check

We love Disney princesses: there, we said it, even though it feels decidedly unmanly. There are two reasons, with the first being that there is an awful lot of hot Disney princess artwork out there. The second, is that there are a number of awesome “What if?” photography projects that extrapolate on the Disney world view, but usually with disastrous consequences.  Dina Goldstein’s Fallen Princesses is one of those sets- if these pretty, pampered cartoon beauties ended up in the real world, how would they handle it? Clearly, Pocahontas would continue on alone after John Smith, and eventually become a crazy cat lady. Check out the full set after the jump.

Dina Goldstein’s Fallen Princesses: Where Are Your Sparkles Now?

I might be a bad person for enjoying these, but they’re exceptionally well thought out and executed, and I mostly enjoy the process of imagining the story behind them. Goldstein’s take on the each fairy tale is decidedly tongue in cheek, and it’s nice to see these normally charmed princesses struggling with the same issues we all do. In the last set we found, they all died horrific, untimely deaths, but now we know how they would continue to live. There’s a nod to Belle having to go to extremes to live up to her name, Cinderella frequenting dive bars hoping someone will pick up her shoe, and Snow White eventually having seven new dwarves to rely on her. The only reason Rapunzel has hair that long and gorgeous is because it’s a weave, and Red Riding Hood is always walking because she’s trying to shed some extra pounds. And, political commentary aside (it really is a great photo), Jasmine’s never looked hotter than when lugging a machine gun through a war zone.

Author, Designer, and "that girl your mother warned you about." Looking good seems to be my job, whether it's working with the site design, or a number of other more interesting capacities. I have a ridiculous sense of humour and a brutal sense of honesty- you'll see a lot of that coming through in my writing, so don't say I didn't warn you if I somehow manage to offend you AND hurt your feelings at the same time. On the plus side, it makes my dating and advice columns a lot more pertinent to an unfinished man in the real world.
