Deep Fried Gadgets – Many iPods Died to Bring You This Post

I always love weird art and photography. It’s amazing to see how people choose to express their views on society through a camera lens; in this case, photographer Henry Hargreaves chose deep fried gadgets. There’s an underlying message of how we so easily consume our technology, and how we’re ready to toss out our devices when we’ve had enough of them. But really whether or not you care for the commentary, the photos are pretty great. I’ve never thought to myself, “Gee, that Gameboy looks disgusting, and totally delicious.” Congratulations to art for continually breaking small bits of my brain.

Deep Fried Gadgets – Do You Want Peripherals With That?

Based out of Brooklyn, Hargreaves worked with a food stylist to help yummy up your iPods when possible, and to create convincingly tasty foamcore models when not. I had a hard time telling which shots used the fake electronics, but on closer inspection, the last image of the laptop doesn’t have raised keys, and is warping more than would be expected around the edges. The trails of grease, clumps of batter and delicate dusting of icing sugar make each of these deep fried gadgets confusingly delectable looking. The whole project sort of reminds me of that “Will it blend?” series of videos, where they test a bunch of random objects by putting them in a blender. “Will it fry?” “Will it explode in oil?” “Will stoned, confused teenagers want to eat it?” I’m pretty sure I would watch a bunch of strange, high cholesterol experiments on things that aren’t supposed to be edible. I can only picture the Unfinished Man team filling a deep fryer with pennies and darts and crap that we get sent to review that’s terrible. There would probably be a lot of this.

Author, Designer, and "that girl your mother warned you about." Looking good seems to be my job, whether it's working with the site design, or a number of other more interesting capacities. I have a ridiculous sense of humour and a brutal sense of honesty- you'll see a lot of that coming through in my writing, so don't say I didn't warn you if I somehow manage to offend you AND hurt your feelings at the same time. On the plus side, it makes my dating and advice columns a lot more pertinent to an unfinished man in the real world.
