Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey – Presented by Neil deGrass Tyson

In 1980, Carl Sagan co-wrote and co-produced a thirteen-part series called Cosmos: A Personal Voyage.

The series was wildly popular, and though I wasn’t to be born for another 5 years, I can now look back fondly on the works of Carl Sagan. He did more for science that any person could even hope to achieve, and though I never knew the man personally, I sorely miss him.

Now, more than ever, the world needs more brilliant educators like Carl Sagan to present our world, and many others, in a way that the average person can understand and enjoy.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey

It’s now the year 2014, and NASA and the entire space industry still have major marketing problem. The space race has largely vanished from public consciousness, and though that’s improving thanks to organizations like SpaceX, we’ve still got a long way to go. We need people to help make science and space exploration sexy again…

But there’s a man that can help us, and his name is Neil deGrasse Tyson. He’s a renowned astrophysicist, and he’s here to help us continue on a journey that Carl Sagan started to many years ago. Yes, I’m very pleased to present you with the trailer for Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.

The new Cosmos aired on Sunday, March 9th, and will continue with one new episode per week for 13 weeks total, just like the original series.

I had the pleasure of watching the first episode last night, and I hope you have a chance to check it out as well. Though no one can replace Carl Sagan, Neil deGrasse Tyson does an admirable job picking up with Mr. Sagan left off. The material is beautiful and, I believe, fairly easy to follow, understand, and enjoy.

Let me know what you think. For the sake of everyone on this planet, I really hope that congress watches this so we can see more funding of the space program, and that children watch this so we’ll see more brilliant young minds tackling the dazzling array of challenges we face as a species.
