Motorcycles

I love motorcycles – do you know why? They do more with less. Motorcycles have only a measly two wheels, and yet they have all the speed and grace of their four-wheeled brothers, but in a smaller package. If it’s fast and runs on two wheels, you’ll probably read about it here.

Wazuma V8F

The Wazuma V8F is the quad Batman would ride when his Bat Mobile is in the garage getting serviced.  It’s probably the world’s most expensive and powerful quad; powered by a Ferrari V8 engine that produces 250 horsepower, the quad weighs less than 650 kg (1,430 pounds) and can hit a top speed of 241 km/h (150 mph).  The Ferrari engine is mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox from a BMW M3 placed on the handle bar.

The quad rides on modified Momo (+Power) wheels with 324 mm disc brakes and Brembo calipers.  The quad is equipped with slick tires that measure 285/30 ZR19 in the front and 315/30 ZR18 in the back.  The one-off V8F was created by the French company Lazareth and is based on their Wazuma R1 quad and is currently for sale at jameslist.com for a whopping sum of €200,000, or about $261,000 at today’s exchange rate. continue reading →

2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale

Ducati keeps producing one hot bike after another; just releasing information on the all-new Ducati 1199 Panigale.  The 1199 Panigale will be made public on November 10 at EICMA, the 69th Milan motorcycle show will be held from November 10 to 13, 2011.

The Ducati 1199 Panigale is not only lighter than the 1198 but also packs a bigger punch.  The superbike is powered by the Superquadro twin-cylinder engine that produces 195 horsepower, 20 more than the standard 1198.  The 1199 weighs in at 361 pounds, 22 pounds lighter than the 1198.  The thing should be a hoot to rip around on some twisty roads. continue reading →

Post image for Yamaha Vmax Hyper Modified Project Bike

I’ve never had an opportunity to check out the annual motorcycle shows that take place here in Vancouver and I sure as hell won’t have the honor of checking out the 2011 EICMA show in Milan this November. Just like with the major car shows, there are lots of surprises at the motorcycle shows as well.

Big name manufacturers and smaller manufacturers take advantage of these shows to unveil new models, prototypes, and new technologies that riders can expect in the coming years. Yamaha has summoned some big-name talent in the custom choppers world to work on a project dubbed as the Vmax Hyper Modified. The big-name talent I am referring to includes Roland Sands, Marcus Walz and Luovic Lazareth. Utilizing the creative talent of these three on one project should result in something spectacular. continue reading →

He loved Triumph motorcycles and rode one in the famous 1963 movie The Great Escape that was made to look like a German military BMW.  Now Triumph is releasing a tribute Steve McQueen edition bike to look like the one from the iconic movie.

The Triumph Steve McQueen Edition motorcycle will be based on a Bonneville T100 and will be limited to 1,100 units.  The bike will feature a military green matte paintjob and stenciled Triumph logos on the fuel tank.  The bike will come with a single seat and include Steve McQueen’s signature below the seat. continue reading →

2012 BMW S 1000 RR

BMW first took a shot at producing a sports bike in 2009, which was a huge success not only because it was an extremely capable motorcycle with state of the art gadgetry but it also looked just as good as its Japanese and Italian competitors.  Just a few short years later, we get a brand new BMW S 1000 RR superbike.

The 2012 S 1000 RR is still powered by the class-leading 193 horsepower engine that has a new throttle map for improved low-speed performance.  The bike comes with rain mode which reduces power to 163 HP in the wet; it’s equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System, and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC).  No word on price yet. continue reading →

2012 Kawasaki ZX-14R Motorcycle

Back in the good ‘ole days, I used to ride a Kawasaki ZX6R Ninja motorcycle. 599 cc was more than enough to get me in all kinds of trouble, but for some people that’s not enough – they want bikes with huge engines.  One of the options for the “bigger is better” crowd is the all-new 2012 Kawasaki ZX-14R, which Kawasaki is calling  “the world’s fastest accelerating bike”.

I can’t imagine how fast this thing would go, but I’d probably end up dead in a week if I bought one.  Kawasaki hasn’t released official power or speed figures but we know this bike will be super-fast.  The 2012 ZX-14R will feature throttle-by-wire and traction control (a good idea) for the first time, with three different settings that can be controlled from the handle bar with gauge cluster indicator lights. continue reading →

ducati-streetfighter-848-naked-bike-picture

The Ducati Streetfighter was first introduced in 2008 at the Milan show and it won the “Most Beautiful Bike” award.  The 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 doesn’t disappoint and is one sexy looking beast!  Other than this, not much information was provided by Ducati regarding the horsepower, price, and other vital statistics. continue reading →

burnout-crash-video

Below is a short video clip of a Polish “biker boy” trying to show off to his girlfriend or a girl he’s trying to score with, by doing a burnout.  The video is only 9 seconds long but well worth watching over and over again.  The video title says it all, “Zajebisty jeste”, which means “fucking, you” (rough translation, thanks Google).

As an ex-biker, I kind of feel bad for the guy, he should have used the golden rule, which is, never show off to girls especially the ones with cameras, until you actually know what you’re doing (be it wheelies, burnouts, or other shenanigans).  Video after the jump. continue reading →
