Career Advice from the Professionals

When it comes to setting up your own business or developing your career, it is important to know that the sky is the limit. It is obviously good to have achievable goals along the way but there is no reason why entrepreneurs or professionals shouldn’t set themselves lofty ambitions when setting up in business. This is because many of the richest professionals in the world or leading entrepreneurs started from a position where they had no money and no connections.

In the present day, a lot of people place their hopes on new technology providing them with the chance to develop a great product and make a lot of money. There are many fantastic examples of people who made their name, money and reputation in this line of work, and if you need inspiration there is no shortage of names to look up to.

A great example of someone who started with very little before striking it rich with a fantastic idea and a lot of hard work is Juan Koum. Koum is the CEO and the co-founder of WhatsApp. According to Forbes, by 2014 he had a net worth of close to $7 billion. His company, founded in 2009, and eventually purchased by Facebook, was created by Koum when he was living on food stamps. His life has been completely transformed by his work around the app and this is a fantastic example of how one product can transform lives if it provides people with what they are looking for.

People can make a difference

Another strong example of a business leader who developed a successful career from an uneventful start is Keith Krach. Krach made a name for himself by developing his career in a manner that saw him named as the youngest ever VP in the company in 1984 when he was just 28 years old. Krach has never forgotten his roots and is well known for his philanthropy.

It can be helpful to remember where you started from when developing a career and staying in touch with the people and environment that helped you get started will often provide further inspiration.

The growth of the coffee market has made a lot of people rich, and one influential person in the Starbucks Corporation experienced a rags to riches rise. Howard Schultz grew up living in a housing complex for low-income families, but by September of 2013 Schultz was listed as having a net worth of $2 billion.

Gaining a football scholarship, which granted access to the University of Northern Michigan, set the platform for Schultz to develop his career. A period of working for Xerox followed after his graduation but Schultz then made the switch to Starbucks, at a time when the organization only had 60 shops, and he progressed quickly in the firm; becoming the CEO in 1987.

No matter what your starting point you shouldn’t place any limit on your aims and ambitions.
