Buick Avista Concept – Not Your Grandma’s Buick

When we talk about cool cars, usually sports cars come to mind. Cars by companies like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz etc. I don’t think I’ve associated a production Buick car with the words “cool car” in a very long time (not including the Buick Avenir Concept, which is pretty cool looking car).

Buick cars are mostly driven by old people, I did rent one once and felt like an old man. Incidentally, I was going to a “Hot Import Nights” car show in that car when I was younger, kind of ironic. Anyways, Buick could become a cool car company if it ever produced the Avenir or their latest concept, the Avista coupe.

The Buick Avista Concept was showcased at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this month. It is a 2+2 sports coupe, powered by a twin-trubo V6 engine, producing 400 horsepower and is a rear wheel drive. But then again, don’t get too excited, I doubt Buick will ever produce this car. If it were to make it to production, it’ll most likely share its chassis and other parts with the Chevy Camaro.

The Avista’s exterior design is the big story here; the exterior is very eye catching and elegant, it would make a good Bond car. Speaking of which, the car does look a bit like an Aston Martin, but then again, a lot of cars look like a lot of cars nowadays. The Avista features sleek lines and is missing the B-pillar, which is a nice throwback to the olden days. The interior is also very sleek and looks like a typical concept car interior with no buttons and lots of touchscreens everywhere.

Let’s hope Buick does prove me wrong and builds both of these beautiful cars, maybe I’ll actually consider them for my next purchase.
