BMW 4-Series Convertible: New Name Same Results

Ladies and gentlemen, here’s the all-new 2014 BMW 4-Series Convertible, hot on the heels of the release of the 4-Series Coupe.  Many people have been complaining about the styling on the new 4-Series cars and their lack of aggressiveness, personally, I like the way the 4-Series looks and after all, this is a gentleman’s sports car, it doesn’t need to be too aggressive looking.

The 4-Sereis convertible looks very similar to the coupe, because it is based on that car, the convertible does have a different roof-line.  The rear window on the coupe has a more aggressive rake compared to the convertible.

The 2014 BMW 4-Series Convertible will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.  The car will come with 2 engine options in the North American market and in Europe it’ll be offered with 3 engine options.

The North American models consist of the 428i and 435i and come in three trims: Sport, Luxury, and M Sport.  The 428i Convertible is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine producing 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque; 0 – 60 mph sprint takes place in 6.2 (slow) seconds.  The 428i will be offered with rear-wheel and optional all-wheel drive.  The 435i Convertible is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0 liter inline-6 engine producing 300 HP and 300 lb-ft of torque; 0 – 60 mph takes about 5 seconds.  The 435i convertible will come with rear-wheel drive only, and both versions will be equipped with 8-speed automatic transmissions.

The European models see an increase of 2 HP in both the 428i and 435i.  The third engine option for Europeans is the 420d Convertible which is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder diesel engine, producing 181 horsepower.  All three European models will come with 6-speed manual gearboxes with optional 8-speed automatics.

According to BMW, the 3-piece hardtop on the 4-Series convertible takes 20 seconds to raise or drop and the top can be dropped/raised at speeds of up to 11 mph (18 km/h).  The top also has new sound-absorbing materials, making the interior quieter by 2 dB compared to the outgoing 3-Series Convertible.

The BMW 4-Series Convertible will go on sale in the spring of 2014 with prices starting at £30,750 ($49,675) for the 428i and £34,555 ($55,825) for the 435i.  Via: BMW
