BBQ Dragon: Hands-Free Barbecue Fan

Last winter was a very treacherous one for many parts of Canada and the USA; but it’s almost over and spring is just around the corner.  With spring and summer comes many good things like sunny skies, greenery everywhere, hot weather, and of course, scantily clad women.  Another great summer tradition is the Barbecue season.

I love handling my meat in the summer, barbecued meat that is.  I’ve been BBQing for a very long time and had always used a charcoal BBQ, but recently switched to propane.  The taste of charcoal barbecue is so much better than propane but it’s a pain to handle charcoal, with the mess it makes and getting the fire going.

I used to use a magazine as a fan to blow air onto the charcoal, which didn’t work great and looked pretty lame.  Then I started using a household fan, that worked but it blew a mess all over the place and I had to hold the fan and stand there for 5-10 minutes.  Today I’ve found a better solution, the BBQ Dragon; a hands-free, purpose-built barbeque fan.

Unlike a regular fan, the BBQ Dragon blows air onto a small area, giving you more control and not blowing ashes all over the place.  The BBQ Dragon is essentially a hairdryer (without the heat coils), that’s battery operated and comes with a clip to stick it onto a barbecue and move it around in directions.  It’s a pretty good idea, one of those “why didn’t I think of it” things.  The BBQ Dragon is portable and blows large amounts of low volume air onto charcoal.

The BBQ Dragon was a kickstarter project last year that was successfully funded, it’s now available on amazon.com or their own website, for $49.99.
