EA has done it again with this new Battlefield 3 trailer, and by it, I mean they made another terrible marketing decision. Using a Jay-Z song in a war game? Really? REALLY? Terrible music choices aside, the trailer is fantastic in every other way. We get to see a lot of dazzling new combat scenes, including a great dog fight sequence between a couple of fighter jets. I’m not a fan of flying given my penchant for an upset stomach, but it sure as hell looks cool when other people are doing it – especially when they’re trying to blast each other out of the sky.
Seth Schiesel of the New York Times calls Battlefield 3 the most realistic shooter yet, and I think that at least from a visual and audio perspective, he’s right. The graphics are stunning, and the gunshots, ambient sounds, and vehicle noises are all top-notch as well. If the gameplay can keep pace with the amazing work that Dice did with the Frostbite 2 engine, then we’re all in for a real treat.

Oh, and if you’re reading this EA, good job on the slogan… Above and beyond the call. What competing game could you possibly be referring to?
