Award Winning Animated GIFs by Micaël Reynaud

When I think of animated GIFs, silly internet memes usually come to mind, not award winning pieces of art. In fact, I had no idea that anyone actually gave out awards for animated GIFs… had I known, I would have been churning them out years ago. After all, I’m full of “great” ideas.

But yes, it’s true… Micaël Reynaud is the recent grand prize winner of the Giphoscope Award, as prestigious an award as any available. You’ve totally heard of it, right? I certainly have…

In any case, this “wavemorph” image above is one of his pieces, and though I think it’s very cool (it reminds me of A Scanner Darkly), it’s not his only piece of awesome GIF artwork. No sir, he’s done dozens if not hundreds of different images, and they’re all pretty damn cool in their own way. Here’s another example:

slitscan pizza

Seriously cool, right? Actually, this pizza looks scalding hot, but you know what I mean. My point is that Micaël Reynaud does some really unique stuff, and you should definitely head over to his Google+ page and check out all the other stuff he’s come up with. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Now, there’s something I would like from you guys. What’s your absolute favorite scary GIF? I’m not just looking for high-brow stuff like these, but anything… funny stuff, weird stuff, sexy stuff… doesn’t matter. Leave me a comment below!

  1. These are so cool, I really admire the creative mind behind this idea. Combining photography into motion picture in such a creative way.

    • Agreed, they’re pretty damn cool. It would be interesting to have one of these as a wall hanging “picture” that slowly cycles through the frames. I think that would really mess with house guests. 🙂
