Avo: The Self-Cleaning Fish Tank

Since early childhood, I’ve always wanted a fish tank but never got around to it and I didn’t really want to deal with cleaning and maintaining the tank. I was told Beta fish (Siamese fighting fish) were one of the easiest fish to take care of, in terms of tank maintenance etc. So I got one, it died, got another one, it died too, within a week of me brining it home. So I gave up on the idea and my childhood dreams never came to fruition.

However, my prayers have been answered by the latest kickstarter project; Avo-the self-cleaning tropical fish tank. Avo is an all-in-one solution for the unskilled (lazy) fish lovers. The 15 liter fish tank comes with everything you need to own and keep alive a healthy fish, the tank comes with a built-in heater, filters, modules for plants, and a detachable LED light.

All you need to do is add water, buy a fish, and feet it; Avo takes care of everything else. The Avo fish tank has been in the design phase for 4 years and the creator, Suzy Shelly, has been using the prototype for 18 months without changing the water or cleaning the tank. Pretty impressive, in my humble opinion. I plan on doing a full review of the Avo fish tank once I get my hands on it.

Currently the project is being funded on kickstarter.com and has already reached the funding target. If you want to reserve an Avo tank, a pledge of £175 will do the trick. The £175 gets you a 15 liter tank with built-in heater, filters, plant pots, and an LED light. These fish tanks are expected to ship out in July 2015.

  1. Does this even exist anymore. Where can we get this and how much. I’ve been eyeing this for the past 2 years and the urge to own one is mounting again. It’s a beautiful piece of living art.
