Animated Movie Gifs – The Best of the 1980s and Beyond

With a show of hands, how many of you like watching movies?

If any of you actually raised your hands, you need to stop following the advice of people on the internet, however… I think it’s safe to assume that pretty much everyone has their favorite movies. Some of my fondest childhood memories were of watching Terminator 2 and Aliens, over and over again. Long before one could simply watch movies online, I would harass my parents to take me to the local video store to pick up some of my favorites.

A Moving Picture? You Don’t Say…

One could argue that my parents’ lack of movie censorship was a bad move, but I disagree. It gave me a firm appreciation for robots, space, and making money – all useful qualities in our increasingly futuristic world. Perhaps one day I’ll be driving a robot… into space! Hah, beat that detractors. But I digress…

What I really wanted to share with you is a collection of awesome animated gifs from some of my favorite movies both old and new. Some of them are quite subtle, and others not so much, but all of them are quite impressive.

Remember how I mentioned really liking movies? Well, let me quantify that. I saw The Matrix 7 times in theaters, and then another 11 times on video. That’s either real dedication, or complete obsession. I think in this case it was the latter.

If you haven’t seen Blade Runner, the latest version I mean, then you’re doing yourself a real disservice. It’s a bloody beautiful looking movie, even if Harrison Ford didn’t actually like working on it.

Recognize this scene? The hallway fight scene in Oldboy is one of the most amazing pieces of cinematography I’ve ever seen. Again, it’s a must watch if you haven’t seen it before.

If you weren’t able to get all of the gifs to play, then you may have to refresh the browser a few times. I’m using Chrome, and the sheer volume of gifs seemed to halt a few of them from actually playing the animation.

More Please

It was really hard to pick out just a few of my favorites because they are all so good. All of these, and many, many more, can be found here and here. I believe that I have covered almost every single movie I like plus a lot more. The only piece I haven’t seen is a clip from Le Samurai. If anyone knows where I might find that, please leave a comment below. In fact, feel free to leave a comment anyway telling us about your favorite gif from either of those sites. If you are looking to find these movies and some new release DVD’s you can search online to purchase them.
