Alien: Isolation – E3 Accolades Trailer

I’m not sure how I missed this one, but apparently Creative Assembly has released a new “accolades” trailer for their upcoming FPS survival horror game, Alien: Isolation.

It’s pretty appropriate, really… Creative Assembly has received a lot of praise at this years E3, and from what I’ve seen of the game so far, they’ve earned it. Alien: Isolation looks absolutely beautiful, and very, very scary. It’s not your typical shoot-em-up, but instead an intelligent, tactical sneak-around that just happens to be done in the first person. Sure there’s some of the typical gun-play you’ve come to expect from just about every game in existence, but there’s also a whole lot more.

What I’m really excited about is the lack of, well… guns blazing. I’ve been playing FPS games for as long as I can remember, but you know what? The genre has gotten stale. It’s the exact same developers doing the exact same things year after year, and I’m tired of it. Alien: Isolation looks a lot more… thoughtful. I have no doubt I’ll be solving some problems with the barrel of a gun, but if I’m around about this one, that won’t be the only way.

Oh, and the protagonist is female, that’s great too. I think the genre, and really all game genres, need a big influx of playable female characters. I’m not going to turn this into one of THOSE conversations, but I will say that to only represent half the gene pool is a little silly. If nothing else, including more strong female characters like this would help attract more female players (go figure), and then maybe some of you will actually get laid, who knows?

In any case, Alien: Isolation arrives for all major platforms later this year. Word on the street is that it’s even playable in VR…
