The Air Force Designed “TEC Torch” Can Breach a Door in Seconds

Breaching a locked door is hard without the right equipment. Some people use lock picks, others kick the door down, and the Air Force, well… they now use 5,000º F vapor jets.

In this video, you’ll see the United States Air Force-developed TEC torch in action. The torch is available in two various parts: an electric handle with the fire button, and the thermite cartridge, which consists of an exclusive mix of metals and metal oxides that form the combustive material. A 9-volt battery in the handle triggers the reaction, which shoots these flames, melting anything that it touches.

Thermite is serious business.

The TEC Torch can also be wielded to melt through undersea cables, gratings, or anything vaguely metal that can obstruct your way through an emergency circumstance. Clever! Likewise, potentially life-saving.

We probably won’t be seeing these for home use any time soon, but the TEC Torch is pretty damn cool all the same.
