2016 Chevrolet Volt Electric Car

The Chevrolet Volt hybrid/electric car has been around for a few years now, they have been alright sellers and are a pretty decent value, if you get the government credits, which are not available in all countries.

The first generation car was not too bad looking, the new second generation 2016 Chevrolet Volt sees refined exterior and interior styling, and I think it looks pretty good. The new Volt has a longer range, is more efficient, and has a lower starting price.

The Volt can now be driven in electric-only mode for up to 50 miles (81 kilometers), compared to 38 miles on the first generation car. The Volt is equipped with a pair of electric motors with 111 kW (149 horsepower) output and 294 pound-feet of torque. The gasoline motor, or “electric range extender”, is a 1.5 liter unit, producing 101 horsepower. According to GM, the 2016 Volt gets 41 miles per gallon combined, up from 37 mpg, and now the gasoline engine doesn’t require premium fuel.

The second generation Volt is also a bit quicker than the first car, it reaches 30 mph in 2.6 seconds and 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. The car is also lighter, with a lighter gasoline engine and lighter battery pack. The battery pack takes 13 hours to fully charge on a 120V outlet and 4.5 hours on a 240V outlet.

The 2016 Chevy Volt is priced at $33,995, which is about $1,200 less than the outgoing model. In the United States, there’s still a $7,500 federal rebate, bringing the price down to $26,495. If you live in California, you can also get an additional $2,500 credit.
