Before you go running to your local Ford dealer in hopes of snatching up a Ford Focus ST diesel, I have some bad news for you; the ST Diesel is only available in Europe. But don’t worry; the North American 2015 Ford Focus ST at least does get some upgrades.
The European Ford Focus ST Diesel uses the 2.0 liter TDCi 4-cylinder engine, tuned to produce 183 horsepower at 3,500 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque between 2,000 and 2,750 rpm range. The diesel engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and comes with auto stop-start technology. The Focus ST Diesel does the 0-62 mph sprint in 8.1 seconds with a top speed of 135 mph. The diesel Focus ST gets pretty good gas mileage as well at 4.4 L/100 km (53.5 US mpg) on the European cycle.
The North American gasoline Focus ST is still powered by the 2.0 liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine, producing 252 HP and 270 pound-feet of torque. The European gasoline Focus ST also gets auto stop-start technology. Ford also upgraded the 2015 Focus ST’s suspension and upgraded the electric steering system for even sharper handling.
The 2015 Focus ST’s exterior and interior also get minor upgrades. The headlights and taillights are smaller with HIDs at the front and LEDs at the rear. The front grill is cleaner and fog lights are rectangular instead of round. The hood sees a bit of sculpting on it, I believed I complained about the lack of any lines/character on the 2014 Focus ST I reviewed last year.
The interior gets a bit of a makeover with a redesigned center stack, center console, and front door panels. The car is now equipped with a flat-bottom steering wheel and a standard rear camera.
The 2015 Ford Focus ST is being presented at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
