2014 Range Rover Sport: Lighter, Faster, & Sexier

When the all-new Land Rover Range Rover was introduced last year, I wasn’t too sure about the design.  But seeing it in person and looking at hundreds of pictures made me change my mind, I actually like it quite a lot now.  The full-size Rover has been selling like hotcakes, with very long waiting lists, so it was only natural for Land Rover to introduce the Range Rover Sport.

Unlike the full-size Range Rover, I instantly like the design of the Sport.  It looks very sleek and refined with heavy design influence from the Range Rover Evoque, but is unmistakably a Range Rover Sport.  I’d like to say, job well done JLR Group.

The new Range Rover Sport is bigger than its predecessor; it’s 2.4” longer and has a 7” longer wheelbase.  It has shorter overhangs, giving it that sporty look, and is 2.1 wider and 8% more aerodynamic than the car it replaces.  The Sport also went on a diet, shedding up to 925 pounds (420 kg), depending on trim.  The weight savings come courtesy of an aluminum unibody construction, rather than the old steel body-on-frame construction.  So, the new Range Rover Sport should be more comfortable for the passengers and save money at the pump… and a bit more environmentally friendly, if you care about that sort of thing.

The 2014 Range Rover Sport is offered with a variety of engine options, depending on the region.  In North America, the SUV will come with a supercharged 5.0 liter V8 engine producing 510 horsepower or a supercharged 3.0 liter V6 engine producing 340 HP.  Both engines come with start/stop technology and are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

In Europe, in addition to the above mention gasoline engines, the Sport will come with a few diesel engine options.  Initially, a 288 HP 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine will be offered, with a 255 HP 3.0 liter V6 and 334 HP 4.4 liter V8 diesel engines being offered in 2014.

The 2014 Range Rover Sport will have the following prices for US models; prices in other regions will be different. Via: LR
